The HCRA Announces New Chair and Vice-Chair

TORONTO, September 19, 2022 – The Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Marg Rappolt as Chair of the HCRA’s Board of Directors. Marg has served as Vice-Chair since 2018, both on the interim board that helped the HCRA prepare for launch, and since the HCRA began operations in February 2021.

With over 35 years of distinguished service in the public sector in Ontario and Saskatchewan, Marg has a diverse portfolio, including serving as Ontario’s Deputy Minister of Community and Social Services, and has held executive leadership positions in the ministries of Health and Long-Term Care, Health Promotion, Seniors, Aboriginal Affairs and Ministry of the Attorney General.

“Marg brings tremendous depth and breadth of experience, and I look forward to her leadership as Chair of the HCRA’s Board of Directors,” said Wendy Moir, Chief Executive Officer & Registrar. “Her demonstrated public sector governance and strategic leadership experience, particularly serving as chair on various boards, will enhance the HCRA’s consumer protection mandate.”

Marg succeeds Virginia West as Chair. Virginia led the HCRA Board in preparation for the organization’s launch in February 2021, and through its first full year of operation, helping to usher in a new era of home building industry oversight. The HCRA thanks Virginia for her exemplary leadership!

Av Maharaj has been appointed Vice-Chair as Marg’s successor. Av is the Chief Administrative Officer & VP of Legal, Corporate Affairs and HR for Kraft Heinz Canada. He has served on the HCRA’s Board of Directors since 2018. In addition to Av’s experience in the legal sector as a lawyer and executive, his advocacy work for diversity and inclusion continues to bring an important perspective and representation to the HCRA and its Board of Directors.
